Mission

The mission of the GOC is to ensure that clinical practice guidelines produced and/or endorsed by EASD are developed through a rigorous and transparent process, resulting in trustworthy and evidence-based recommendations for the management of diabetes and its complications.

This mission aligns with the EASD's commitment to promoting excellence in diabetes care through research and education and supports the Association's aims to encourage research in the field of diabetes, rapidly diffuse acquired knowledge, and facilitate its application in clinical practice.

Role

The role of the GOC is to advise the EASD Board on all matters concerning clinical practice guidelines. The Committee will:

• Establish a transparent and systematic guideline development process, adhering to recognized standards such as those outlined by NAM or the Guidelines International Network (GIN), and based on a relevant Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) (currently under development).
• Ensure that guideline development panel (GDP) members have the necessary expertise and that conflicts of interest are appropriately declared and managed.
• Oversee the conduct of systematic reviews to assess the quality of evidence and formulate recommendations.
• Facilitate external reviews of draft guidelines to ensure their quality, relevance, and applicability.
• Ensure that guidelines are updated regularly based on new evidence and developments in the field.
• Promote the dissemination and implementation of guidelines among healthcare professionals, researchers, and other stakeholders.
