EASD Early Career Academy at the EASD Annual Meeting 2024

The Early Career Academy was again actively involved in the organisation of the programme of the EASD Annual Meeting 2024 in Madrid and several attractive sessions have been organised directly by us.

Background stories from renowned diabetes researchers, key decisions at the early career stage that finally shaped a high-esteemed career trajectory, leadership skills, mistakes, and career development insights provided ‘condensed’ knowledge of critical importance to early career scientists. Attendees had the opportunity to witness an alternative take on diabetes research and got a different ‘bird’s eye’ reflection on career evolution from diabetes experts at all stages of their careers.

Best Abstract Awards

We've again evaluated the abstracts submitted for the Annual Meeting and assigned the 'Best Abstract Awards' to one early career researcher per scientific track which makes eight awardees in total.

Winners were announced during the Presidential Address and awardees received their certificates at the Early Career Academy Social Event which was a lively interactive networking opportunity in a fun and relaxed setting with some drinks and finger food.

Best Abstract Award recipients are: Evi Koene, Theodore Dos Santos, Henrik Maagensen, Lorenzo Semeia, Madeleine Hayman, Jolien De Meulemeester, Ananya Muthukumar, Rebecka Bergdal (from left to right).

Congratulations again to the recipients of the 'Best Abstarct Awards' and many thanks to all who joined us during our activites at the EASD Annual Meeting in Madrid!

Last but not least: A huge 'thank you' to the outgoing members of the EASD Early Career Academy!

They are our 'founding mothers and fathers' and initiated our activities over the last three years. The overwhelming success of our activities would not be possible without their dedication and commitment - thank you!

Now it will be up to the 'next generation' of early career researchers and clinicians to continue growing our activities and developing new ideas.

Outgoing ECA Committee members are: Claudia Cavelti-Weder, Lucile Dollet, Caterina Conte, Pierre Larraufie, Alexandra Smink, Beatriz Merino Antolin, Jan Goijda (from left to right), Shivani Misra, Konstantinos Toulis, Ben Stocks, Rula Bakar (not pictured).
