Dr Rumyana Boykova Dimova

Research & Interests: Rumyana Boykova Dimova is a Medical Doctor (Medical University Sofia, 2008, Golden Hippocrates Medal for the full excellent graduate). After graduation, she was appointed as a medical doctor at The University Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment in Endocrinology (USBALE) "Acad. Ivan Penchev" EAD. From October 2016 until October 2017 she was appointed as an Assistant Professor, later as Chief Assistant Professor, and from 2023 she is Associate Professor at the Department of Endocrinology, Medical University Sofia. She received her PhD degree in 2016 at the Medical University Sofia, Sofia, on the thesis: "Autonomic diabetic neuropathy – contemporary diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities". In 2017 she obtained specialty in Endocrinology from the Medical University Sofia.
Her focus areas are prediabetes, diabetes prevention, assessment of the link between prediabetes and the increased risk of cardiovascular disease, pathogenesis of diabetes chronic complications, in particular understanding mechanisms, preventing and treating cardiac autonomic neuropathy, its manifestation in early stages of glucose intolerance, and related cardio-metabolic disorders and cardiovascular disease risk, obesity as a major global health concern, behavioural intervention in changing lifestyle in order to prevent diabetes development and attenuate its progression and complications in obese adults, the implementation of CGMs in prediabetes.
She was awarded the "Best young scientist in clinical medicine” prize of Medical University, Sofia, in 2017, "Best young scientist in diabetes research for 2017” prize of Bulgarian Society of Endocrinology (BSE) and Servier, “Donnell D. Etzwiler Scholar for 2017” scholarship of International Diabetes Center (IDC), in Minneapolis, USA, “Future Leaders Mentorship award for 2018”, from the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD), and Laureate of the prize “Akad. T. Tashev” for young investigator, prize of Bulgarian Association for Study of Obesity and Related Diseases (BASORD) in 2020.
