Open Call for Members for EASD Guideline Development Panel on Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes

The European Association for the Study of Diabetes e.V. (EASD) invites applications from EASD members to join the Guideline Development Panel (GDP) for the upcoming guideline on prevention of type 2 diabetes.

The GDP will include two chairpersons, members with clinical and research expertise in the specific topic, and two in-house EASD methodologists.

Who Should Apply?

  • Experts with clinical and research experience in prevention of type 2 diabetes, including involvement in relevant clinical trials and/or systematic reviews.
  • Applicants who demonstrate a broad understanding of guideline development processes and the importance of advancing diabetes care through the development of evidence-based recommendations.
  • Individuals from diverse backgrounds who value inclusion and patient perspectives in healthcare and are willing to undergo INGUIDE level 1 training provided by McMaster University.

Responsibilites of ALL GDP Members:

  • Collaboratively formulate key clinical questions in PICO (Participants, Intervention, Comparator, Outcomes) format, based on which an Evidence Synthesis Team (EST) will perform a systematic review of available evidence.
  • Once finalised, GDP members will be expected to adhere to the EASD guidelines Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and collaborate with the EST to assess GRADE evidence profiles for each clinical question.
  • Develop clinical practice recommendations based on Evidence-to-Decision frameworks using the GRADE methodology.
  • Write and review the draft guideline document, based on a structured format that will be detailed in the forthcoming EASD guidelines SOP.
  • Engage in the complete guideline development process, from scoping the clinical questions to final review and potential future updates. The overall timeframe for this process, from the initial scoping of clinical questions to the submission of the guideline to a journal, is approximately 82 weeks.

Additional responsibilites of GDP Chairpersons

  • Coordinate all individual tasks of the GDP.
  • Ensure unbiased interpretation of evidence and facilitate consensus among diverse team members.
  • Oversee the drafting and revision process of the guideline document.
  • Coordinate with the EASD Guidelines Oversight Committee for updates or revisions based on new evidence

Application Requirements:

  • Short Curriculum Vitae: Highlighting your expertise and experience relevant to the guideline topic.
  • Letter of Intent: A one-page (maximum) document outlining your interest in joining the GDP and how you envision contributing to the guideline development. Please also indicate whether you would like to be considered for the role of co-chair of the GDP.
  • Conflict of Interest (COI) Declaration: Applicants are required to complete the EASD guidelines Conflict (Duality) of Interest form, available at this link. The overall GDP constitution should also fulfil the requirements as outlined in the EASD guidelines COI policy, which can be found at the same link.

Benefits of Participation:

  • Influence global diabetes care through collaborative guideline development.
  • Opportunity for professional growth and networking within the EASD community.
  • Contribute to the evolution of guidelines into "living documents" that adapt to new research dynamically.

Please Note

  • This is a non-remunerated position but offers an opportunity for professional development and a chance to impact the field of diabetes care.
  • The specific tasks and methodology will be finalised based on the collective expertise of the GDP.
