A Milestone in Diabetes Education: Distinguished Speakers and Key Highlights
The EASD in China Summit 2025 highlighted the importance of education in shaping the future of diabetes care. By combining in-person and virtual platforms, the summit provided a rich, cross-border academic experience, bringing together experts from around the world to share insights, research, and best practices.
The summit’s agenda focused on diabetes and its comorbidities with heart and kidney diseases – an area of growing concern globally – with a spotlight on the latest research and guidelines. Prof. Julian Mader, Chair of the EASD Training and Education Committee, presented highlights from the 2024 EASD Annual Meeting, emphasizing the role of cardiorenal metabolism in managing type 2 diabetes (T2D).
Experts emphasized the importance of early intervention and comprehensive care strategies, underscoring how education empowers HCPs to deliver better outcomes for patients. Finnish nephrology expert Prof. Per-Henrik Groop shared findings from the groundbreaking FLOW trial, showcasing the potential of GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) in treating kidney disease. Prof. Hindrik Mulder, Editor-in-Chief of Diabetologia, also delivered a masterclass on publishing in high-impact journals, empowering researchers to elevate their work and contribute to the global body of diabetes knowledge. From Peking University Third Hospital, Prof. Tianpei Hong provided a comprehensive review of the latest academic advancements in metabolic burden management incl. innovations in diabetes screening, new treatment concepts, and emerging technologies from 2024, while the panel explored the evolving role of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) in diabetes guidelines.
Through these discussions, the summit underscored how education equips HCPs with the latest advancements to improve patient outcomes and shape the future of diabetes care, while ensuring HCPs stay at the forefront of modern diabetology.
