Janaka Karalliedde

Dr Janaka Karalliedde, MBBS, FRCP, FHEA, PhD, is a Clinical Reader in Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease at King’s College London and a Consultant Physician at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London.

Graduating with distinction from the University of London, he earned a PhD for his research on cardiovascular and renal diseases in diabetes. Janaka leads research on predictors and biomarkers of cardio-renal disease, focusing on their real-world application for risk stratification in kidney disease progression.

He has published over 100 articles, speaks frequently at international conferences, and recently led the UK Diabetes and Kidney Association guidelines for managing diabetic kidney disease. With more than 20 years of clinical experience, he specialises in renal and cardiovascular complications of diabetes and has established community-based clinics in London to reduce these risks through early intervention.

Janaka is passionate about clinical education and is eager to foster collaborations through his roles with EASD TEC and as co-chair of the EFIM Academy.
